Fighting the Cholera Outbreak with Clean Water

Clean water is a need around the world, but sometimes there are disasters that make this need even more critical. The Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation (YRRF) who are taking action to help in Yemen. Currently, the country is experiencing the largest recorded cholera outbreak with over 2.3 million suspected cases. Additionally, various other water borne diseases are common and are resulting in malnutrition, especially among the children.  Providing clean water is key to preventing the spread of cholera and diarrheal diseases as well as improving the population’s health and reducing the risk of malnutrition.

Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation is working to reduce morbidity and mortality in the hardest hit communities in Yemen. They are doing this by distributing Village Water Filters in addition to food and other supplies. The YRRF has distributed water filters to multiple areas including to Internally Displaced Populations. The members of the communities who received the water filters were able to provide clean water to their families, ensuring that they stay healthy and their children have a much lower risk of becoming malnourished.

They have had a great impact in Yemen, but they have received even more requests from multiple communities for water filters. The YRRF has goals to expand their reach with clean water. They hope to scale up access to clean water, but can not do this without your support. Would you like to partner with us as we come alongside the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation?

COVID-19 has affected millions of people around the world. Some are fortunate to have kept their jobs, but others struggle to make ends meet. We especially are thinking of those in developing countries who might not have access to basic sanitation and hygiene facilities or adequate medical care. They may even lack clean water for washing their hands or other cleaning essentials. With this in mind, we have decided to expand our work to also distribute masks. With only a dollar, you can provide a mask to protect someone from the virus.

Can you spare a dollar to help others in need during this uncertain time?

Special Need for Those Affected by Historic Earthquake

Puerto Rico Earthquake

YOUR SUPPORT COUNTS.

HELP NOW. Puerto Ricans need access to clean and safe water.

earthquake magnitude

tremors felt this year in Puerto Rico

On January 7, 2020, a record breaking earthquake shook the island of Puerto Rico. It devastated the infrastructure of the southwest side of the island and left thousands without shelter and access to clean water. In the following days, tremors continued, making it difficult to begin the work to rebuild.

Yet we believe that we can provide hope in this situation. We are partnering with a local church to provide Kohler Clarity Water Filter Systems and replacement cartridges. These systems will be distributed to families so that they can drink clean water and avoid the many water-borne illnesses.

Would you partner with us to provide hope to those in need?

A Note from Our Founder

Anyone who has taken a cruise in the Caribbean has probably stopped in Freeport, The Bahamas. It is where Jan and I did our scuba diving.  It is where I went parasailing. We purchased conch shells and enjoyed the food and dancing …but now the island is devastated.

The great irony is that the island is surrounded by water, flood waters are everywhere and not a drop to drink. The governor said and I quote, “Please, we do not want you to send us water, send us water filters.” We want to do that! We are prepared to do that.

Can you spare a $50.00 bill so that we can provide a water filter to be delivered to a family through active groups like the Red Cross? We are already in consultation with a number of existing agencies on the ground. Your donation will pay for the filter, shipping, and delivery to those who desperately need clean and safe water.

Costa Rica - Growing Together with Clean Water

Of the over 365,000 households in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, 22.4% are living in extreme poverty. That’s surviving on just $1.90 per day for food, water, and all other costs of living for an entire household.

Connect for Water is partnering with Paylocity and the Creciendo Juntos Association to bring clean, safe water to those living in the most dire of conditions.

Since becoming a nonprofit in 2013, the Creciendo Juntos Association has been committed to providing a collaborative platform that drives and channels actions in social investment, education and health, seeking the welfare of people and the transformation of Guanacastecan communities.

Their vision is to lift up whole communities: individuals, families, institutions, and enterprises, so that they may reach new levels of development. They’ve had success early on be providing free transportation to students, hosting a job database to help people find work, overseeing the development of over 40 micro-enterprises, as well as carrying out several children’s health and wellness initiatives.

For every dollar that you donate, you are providing the equivalent of 7,300 bottles of water to people who desperately need it.

Unsafe water is one of the leading causes of illness that prevents children and adults from attending school and work. For economic and community growth to be achieved, sustainable access to clean and safe water in people’s homes is a necessary step forward.

The current phase of their plan to positively affect people in Guanacaste is to provide 225 families and 1 school with water filters that can provide clean water for the next 5 years or more.

The impact of your gift will last for years to come. Give now to support the families and students of Guanacaste.

2.1 billion people don’t have access to clean, safe water.

Jeff Haveman is one of the co-owners of Business Connect, a company whose mission is to provide citizens living in the Global South with affordable and easy access to clean water, through the creation of a sustainable, local business model.

Jeff, his son, and his nephew are currently preparing for the opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. While they are preparing for this physical and mental challenge, they also wanted to provide a way to leave an impact that will last long after they’ve left.

They are seeking to raise funds to cover the implementation of water filters to the people of Tanzania while they are there for the trip.

Please help us to provide the people of Tanzania with safe drinking water in their communities, schools, and homes to enable people to lift themselves out of poverty.
